Find an impact job in Belgium

Where Belgium's impact companies are and what they're hiring for right now. The impact is the product here, not the press release.

I’ve read a lot of job ads that mention sustainability. Most of them aren’t impact jobs. They’re ordinary jobs at ordinary companies with a report attached. The 1,647 companies on our Impact Map are the other kind: the impact is what they sell. So this is where they are in Belgium, and what they’re hiring for right now.

If the company grows, does the problem get smaller?

That’s the one question I use.

At an impact company the answer is yes. A company that installs heat pumps removes emissions every time it wins a customer. A company that publishes a sustainability report doesn’t. That question has sorted every employer I’ve tried it on so far.

1,647 companies on the map

As of 14 October 2026 there are 1,647 impact companies on our Impact Map, all of them in Belgium. We know we’re still missing some. Social impact is the biggest area with 807 companies, then climate with 771. Health is the smallest at 360. Those three numbers add up to more than 1,647 because a company can sit in two areas at once. Waste Warriors is one of them. It takes the fruit and vegetables that farmers can’t sell and has them made into products people buy, so on the map it counts in climate and in social.

Where they sit

Brussels has the most at 567 if you count the whole region, and 266 if you only count the city. The region is nineteen communes, so the 567 are more spread out than the number suggests. Ghent has 161 and Antwerp 105. That leaves 814 spread across the rest of the country, so nearly half of the map sits outside the three big cities.

And the three cities lean different ways.

Brussels leans social. 412 of its 567 companies work on social impact, which is more than the rest of Belgium put together. My guess: the EU institutions and the international organisations around them. Nobody has tested it.

Ghent leans health. 60 of its 161 companies work on health and no other Belgian city has as many. The university and its spin-offs usually get the credit.

Antwerp is the smallest of the three. Social impact is its biggest slice too, 52 of 105.

If you’re willing to move, that’s your shortlist of three cities. If not, it tells you which area to look at first.

Most open roles are ordinary jobs

On 14 October there were 1,742 open roles at 369 of these companies, and most of the titles are ones you’d find at any company in the country: developers, account executives, marketing people, accountants, fundraisers. Care is the one area where that breaks down. Care roles are the third biggest category on the map, and for those the diploma still decides.

You don’t need a new degree. You need a different employer.

How to find one

I’d do it in this order.

Start from the map. Every company is in one place and you can filter by city and by area, which beats typing “sustainability jobs” into a job board.

Read the business model before the mission statement, then open the careers page. It tells you more than the mission statement does, and I explain why in the piece on what makes a company an impact company.

Then stop searching and talk to Clay, our AI career companion. Tell him what you’re good at and what you care about, and you get a shortlist that updates as roles open.

Questions people ask

What is an impact job?

A job at a company whose product or service is the impact itself, so that growth and impact move in the same direction.

How many impact companies are there in Belgium?

1,647 on the Goodshift Impact Map. We counted them on 14 October 2026, and we know the list isn’t complete.

Do I need a new degree to work in impact?

Usually not. Operations and sales roles are a big part of what’s open. Care is the exception, and there the diploma still decides.

How do you know a company really makes an impact?

Read the business model first. Then look at what they hire for, and whether anyone independent has looked at them.

The map isn’t finished. If you know a company that belongs on it, send it over.
